The Black Death spread so quickly because of the rats that carried the fleas which transmitted the disease. The town were full of littered streets that attracted these rats giving them a perfect place to breed and increase their numbers. Lack of medical knowledge made some people whip themselves, hoping God would forgive them for their sins.
