Montserrat Volcano is a volcanic region in the British overseas territory that erupted in 1995 over the Soufrière Hills after being dormant for a very long period. The eruption was caused by numerous earthquakes which occurred as a result of magma squeezing through the volcano at very high pressure. The Montserrat Island was formed as a result of volcanic activities.

The first volcanic eruption in Montserrat was in January 1992. This took place in south Montserrat. It has been having numerous series of volcanic eruptions since then and the latest one was reported on 21 October 1997.
