Why do so many Southeastern cities in the United States have Spanish names?

Answer

So many southeastern cities, in the United States, have Spanish names because Spanish people had a large part in the early settlement of cities. They may have had a part in discovering the area or a part in doing something that was important for the area. The city could be named for a specific person or it could be named to stand for something significant relating to something Spanish.
