Sore sternum is mainly caused by stretching of the underlying ligaments. This condition is quite painful and can take up to 3 months before it heals. It can also be as a result of trauma caused by an unfortunate accident.

Anytime I've had this problem it's been gas. Nothing this frequent though. If you suspect nothing lifethreatening, isolate a couple and change only one at a time to figure it out.
