Why is it important to choose your friends wisely?

Answer

Choosing friends wisely is important because the friends that a person surrounds herself with have a huge impact on the person's attitude, achievements and decisions. Although this is more important during a person's teenage years, it continues to be important later on in life.

Dr. William T. Slobodian once said, “Choose your friends wisely. You will become what they are.” His statement speaks on the impact that friends have on a person's choices. During teenage years, this is often referred to as peer pressure. Although adults no longer think of it in the same terms, the need to fit in with their friends is always there.

Jim Rohn, a late entrepreneur in the United States, once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Once again, this is a statement in regard to the huge impact friends have on an individual. Rohn believed so strongly in this fact that he believed that it was the combination of friends that someone chooses that makes up the individual. He also believed that the friends that someone chooses shapes and changes the personality of a person over time. In short, friends make people who they are.
