Many people object to the mining of minerals because it harms the environment in several ways. First, sometimes toxic chemicals are used in the removal of the ores from the rock, which increases pollution. Forests are cut down, which means that many animals lose their homes; and since there are fewer trees using up carbon dioxide, there is more C02 in the atmosphere. Mining also ruins the beauty of nature by taking away part of the landscape and leaving a hole.
