The original location of Scotland Yard is said to have been the site of a residence owned by the Kings of Scotland, used and occupied by them and their ambassadors (when in London) and was known as Scotland. The courtyard was later used by Sir Christopher Wren hence the name Scotland Yard. The headquarters were moved to Victoria Embankment and adopted the name New Scotland Yard.
