Why Was Germany Blamed for World War 1?

Answer

Although World War I was started by Austria, Germany got the brunt of the blame for its escalation. Germany, which made an alliance with Austria and later with Italy, threatened to invade France, a declaration which spurned Britain, France and later Russia to fight back. Germany also involved USA by sinking its hospital ship, the Lusitania.
