The only record of your birth is in Texas. That's where it is, that's where you go to get it. I would try the internet anyway. Texas.org.gov or something like that. Give it a shot.

I don't know about California per se, but generally custody goes to the mother, especially if paternity has not been established, until/unless changed by the courts.

you will just need to go to your local vital records office and they will make you an official copy. i think it costs about $15. you just need a photo id or a parent to go with you with their photo id.
