It sounds like the primary display is not being switched to AGP. With the PCI card, get into the BIOS and look for a setting to use AGP instead of PCI as the primary display. After setting that, shut down and switch cards.

Since you are in the BIOS anyway, I'd trying setting everything to default and try to reboot (should be a setting for that in there). If that doesn't work try booting from a CD, that might give you more to go on, could be a bad HD?
