Answers to Common Questions
Elastic deformation means that while the force is applied to a body some deformation ( bending , streching , etc) will take place but as soon as the force is removed the body will return to its original shape with no defects.

This seems to be very dependent on tank geometry but it can be estimated. As before skip the analysis if you just want the numbers.

Yes, as long as the plastic deformation is localized and caused by secondary stresses. In these cases, the ASME Code criteria evaluates the pseudo-elastic stress, obtained in an elastic analysis.

When a sufficient load is applied to a metal or other structural material, it will cause the material to change shape. This change in shape is called deformation. A temporary shape change that is self-reversing after the force is removed, s...

Elastic deformation springs back to its original shape when unloaded. Plastic deformation permanently sets the material. (This only happens after the elastic limit for the material has been exceeded.)

In case of elastic deformation when the applyed stress disappears, the material returns in its initial form. In case of plastic deformation a remaining shape change occurs. Until a stress value - what is property of individual material - ca...
