I worked in computing and in some very smart companies I hesitated to use their keyboards because they were SOOO dirty. One major US managment consultancy in particular, very major, so you know who I mean. Yuk.

No. Pressing the button once will tell the control logic that a rider is waiting for the lift. It will respond by stopping the next upgoing or downgoing car on that floor. It's that simple.
