Poinsettia, or Euphorbia pulcherrima, is a plant native to Mexico. It was named after Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first US Minister to Mexico, who introduced it to the US in 1825.
In Mexico, it is called the Noche Buena and has been associated with Christmas since the 16th century.
