Steinbeck was a native of California, many of his novels have West Coast settings. Again he l;ived in California most of his life and a good deal of his novels take place in the Golden State often under not very Gold-dusted circumstances!
"Of Mice and Men" and "Cannery Row" are two that I can remember.

He wrote quite a lot of "California novels". Salinas, Monterey and parts of the San Joaquin Valley were the setting for many of his stories. The area is now sometimes referred to as "Steinbeck Country".
