Why nitration of toluene is easier than benzene?
Hi ,As you know from the structures of both the compounds that toluene has a methyl group on the benzene ring which is electron releasing group and hence activate the benzene ring by pushing the elctrons on the benzene ring. On the other ha... Read More »

You won't get 3-nitrotoluene, as the methyl group is an o,p-director. Toluene is CH3C6H5, while the nitrotoluenes are CH3C6H4NO2, the difference being the position of the nitro with respect to the methyl group. Read More »

I cannot imagine a reaction taking place between these 4 reactants. I wonder if this is not the nitration of toluene, with a Fe(NO3)3/NaI catalyst: C6H5CH3 + HNO3 →{Fe(NO3)3/NaI catalyst} → C6H4CH3NO2 + H2O Read More »
