Pokemon Crater was pretty good but like you said it closed down. This site http://onlinepokemongames.blogspot.com/ I found seems to have all the free online pokemon rpgs that are around. Pokemon Global looks to be a good game to try.

A lot of time really but, its basically an offline RPG except you have to transfer packets to and from a server, and example of client server protocol can be found pretty easily (as it difficult to do) just google a bit.

Assuming you are talking about Fable 2 it is pretty good. The game looks very good for the 360, you now have a dog companion and the fighting system has been simplified into 3 different buttons. It is a pretty large game with lots of things...
