I don't think you're doing anything wrong. If you leave ink cartridges for too long they can dry up. Run a head clean on it and try reprinting. EDIT: Are your ink cartridges separate for each color or is it a singular cartridge?

Take it back and ask them to take a small amount and test adding some very dark green or else some black. It might tone down the purple enough to give you a close match to what you originally wanted. If it works, then do the whole batch.

your lens has a purple hue/tint as a protective UV coating. your scratch probably broke thru this coating and has dinged the glass. sooner or later your wiping with your shirt trick won't work anymore so unfortunately i think you're screwed...
