I don't know what kind of files you need to burn, but CDBurnerXP works well for the basics. It's free and easy to use. I use it myself after switching over from Nero which has become farty and bloated.

no, no uninstall necessary. Windows xp's built in cd burning is actually based on Roxio. I dont forsee you having any problems.
