To stay safe during a tornado, you should go to a sheltered area, such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar or the center of an interior room on the lowest level. If you are in a vehicle, get out and go to the lowest floor of a nearby building.
If caught outside with no shelter, you should lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression and cover your head with your hands.
