minimum wage is NOT being "paid well" and yes they do rent their chairs at salons and barber shops. I don't believe they get paid an hourly wage, It is more like a commission. You should always tip for a service.

I usually just tip the person who did my hair/nails. if the owner does your nails/hair then you should tip them the same you would tip one of the workers. Because they are doing the exact thing that one of the workers would do.

At those prices I would never get my hair colored. Thank goodness for small town salons. We tip the lady that cuts my whole family' hair 8 dollars. She always tries to give us back the change but we just smile and hug her and leave.
