Within the system of U.S. customary units, a quart is the equivalent of 2 pints, 4 cups or 32 fluid ounces. It is also equal to one-fourth of a gallon.
Sixty-four tablespoons also make 1 quart, as do 192 teaspoons. All of these measurements are units of volume and are commonly used in recipes and food packaging in the United States. One exception is in the soft drink industry, which typically sells products in 1- and 2-liter bottles. One quart is slightly less than 1 liter in the metric system. One liter equals 1.06 quarts, or 1 quart equals 0.95 liters.
