How Do You Use the Scientific Method in Everyday Life?
Questions about traffic, weight loss and cleaning products can be easily answered by using the scientific method. In theory, the scientific method can be used to answer virtually any question imaginable. The scientific method is a consistent approach to acquiring knowledge that begins with a question and then uses a combination of research, testing and analysis to arrive at the answer to the question.
If someone wants to know the best route to drive to work, the scientific method can reveal the answer. First, the driver must conduct research about local traffic patterns. This may entail looking at traffic maps, watching news reports or performing Internet searches. The driver then decides on a route. This route is the driver’s hypothesis. After forming a hypothesis, the driver must test it by taking that route and observing the type of traffic encountered. Afterwards, the driver analyzes the results and determines if the route was in fact the best route. It may be necessary to test alternate routes to determine conclusively that the hypothesis was correct or incorrect.
