The cell theory scientists were Theodor Schwann and Matthias Jakob Schleiden. Schleiden suggested that all the different parts of plants are made of cells. Schwann came to the same conclusion as Schleiden and stated further that animals were also composed of cells.Know More
Schleiden further suggested that cells were made by a crystallization process either within other cells or from the outside. However, this theory was later refuted by scientists Rudolf Virchow, Robert Remak and Albert von Kölliker.
Nevertheless, Rudolf Virchow later made contributions to Schleiden’s and Schwann’s work. He proposed that living cells must develop from pre-existing cells. However, this idea had already been proposed by Robert Remak, who further published observations on cell division disapproving Schwann’s and Schleiden’s generation schemes. Remak stated that binary fission was how new animal cells were made. No further contributions were made on cell theory.
The modern interpretation of cell theory states:
Theodor Schwann, along with fellow scientist Matthias Schleiden, developed the cell theory, which is basically a description of the various parts and functions of plant and animal cells. Schwann and Schleiden developed the cell theory in 1838. Schwann went on to publish their findings in 1839 and, as a result, received much of the notoriety for their work.Full Answer >
The primary reason that scientists and students stain onion cells is to make it easier to discern the various structures and organelles. In practice, most cells are treated with stains or dyes to give them higher contrast and improve the researcher’s ability to visualize the key features. Several different stains and dyes are in common use, including eosin, iodine and safranin.Full Answer >
Cell theory is the scientific theory that describes the properties of cells, primarily that the cell is the basic unit of life, and all living things are made of cells and all cells come from pre-existing cells. Modern cell theory is the result of centuries of research and experimentation facilitated by the invention of the microscope. Cell theory dispels the past myth of spontaneous generation or life coming from nothing.Full Answer >
The modern cell theory states that living organisms are made of cells, that all cells come from other cells and that cells are the most basic life form. As scientific advancements are made, definitions of theories, like the cell theory, are updated. The modern cell theory is not the same as cell theory of the past.Full Answer >
