The cell theory scientists were Theodor Schwann and Matthias Jakob Schleiden. Schleiden suggested that all the different parts of plants are made of cells. Schwann came to the same conclusion as Schleiden and stated further that animals were also composed of cells.Know More
Schleiden further suggested that cells were made by a crystallization process either within other cells or from the outside. However, this theory was later refuted by scientists Rudolf Virchow, Robert Remak and Albert von Kölliker.
Nevertheless, Rudolf Virchow later made contributions to Schleiden’s and Schwann’s work. He proposed that living cells must develop from pre-existing cells. However, this idea had already been proposed by Robert Remak, who further published observations on cell division disapproving Schwann’s and Schleiden’s generation schemes. Remak stated that binary fission was how new animal cells were made. No further contributions were made on cell theory.
The modern interpretation of cell theory states:
The modern cell theory states that living organisms are made of cells, that all cells come from other cells and that cells are the most basic life form. As scientific advancements are made, definitions of theories, like the cell theory, are updated. The modern cell theory is not the same as cell theory of the past.Full Answer >
Felix Dujardin made his largest contribution to cell theory when he proposed the classification of a new type of single-celled organism which he called rhizopoda. Felix Dujadin's rhizopoda are now known as protozoans.Full Answer >
Robert Brown contributed to cell theory by showing the radical motion of molecules within a cell under the light of a microscope. The Brownian method was named after Brown's discovery of the way that the molecules moved.Full Answer >
The cell theory states that the cell is the basic unit of life. Hans and Zacharias Jansen greatly contributed to the various parts of this theory by inventing the first microscope.Full Answer >
