Michael Jordan chose to wear the number 23 because his brother's favorite jersey number was 45, and 23 was close to half of that number. When Jordan came out of retirement, he briefly wore the number 45 before returning to his signature number.
Jordan is known as possibly the greatest basketball player to have ever played. He won six NBA championships, also being awarded the most valuable player in all six of those victories. Jordan won countless awards and was included on nearly every all-star team he was eligible for. He also won two gold medals with the United States team from the two Olympic Games he competed in.
