Full Answer

Girls Scouts of Italy is one of 145 member organizations which make up WAGGGS. Girls are provided with international friendship opportunities, as well as educational and fun experiences that nurture cultural understanding, leadership skills and the exchange of ideas with other girls in many different countries.

In 1974 the Italian Girl Guides decided to break away from the Federazione Italiana Guide Esploratrici in favor of association with the Roman Catholic Church to form AGESCI, Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani. In 1976, yet another scouting faction was developed in Italy, called the Corpo Nazionale Giovani Esploratori ed Esploratrici Italiani (CNGEI), which includes both girls and boys.

According to their website, Girl Scouts was begun in America by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912. The organization promotes interracial, religious and social diversity. It works to include all girls who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Law and embrace the Girl Scout Promise. Girl Scouts of America is a member of WAGGGS.
