Rice was born on October 13, 1962 in Starkville, Miss. Rice played college football at Mississippi Valley State University and was a first-round NFL Draft choice by the 49ers in 1985. He set several records during his senior season with the Delta Devils, including pass receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns, and he was a member of the NCAA All-American team.
With the 49ers, Rice played on three teams that won the Super Bowl, and he was named the Super Bowl MVP for his play during Super Bowl XXIII. Rice was named to the Pro Bowl team 13 times and an All-Pro 12 times. Other accolades that Rice earned during his career include Pro Bowl MVP, Bert Bell Award and two-time AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
