Q:

What is iMGSRC?

A:

IMGSRC is a free photo-sharing website based in Russia. The site allows users to post images of any content, and some members have used the website to spread child pornography. A few of the website's users have been arrested and charged under criminal law. Most of the site operates legally. IMGSRC boasts of 637,000 users who have uploaded 38 million photographs as of 2014.

Many photographs on iMGSRC are posted legally, but thousands are posted under an encrypted password that members need in order to gain access to and view the photos. While the National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom monitors photographs posted to the website, the organization can only arrest individuals if they post illegal material.

In spring 2014, a New Jersey man named Alex Gonzalez was arrested and charged with posting sexually explicit photographs of a 15-year-old high school student on iMGSRC. The man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime. In 2013, Massachusetts police officer Paul Manganelli Jr.,was charged with receiving and sending photos and videos of child pornography on iMGSRC. The officer claims that he was using the website to do research and to identify online child pornographers. He was sentenced to five years in federal prison in 2014.
