Ernst Mally was born October 11, 1879 in Krainburg. Krainburg was then a town of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, and today is the town of Kranj in Slovenia. After the death of his father in 1888, the family moved to Laibach, today Lubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
