Above 700°C, the LiAl-silicate virgilite took the place of petalite + quartz [also see London, (1984)]. A new and presumably metastable LiAl-silicate with feldspar stoichiometry (LiAl silicate, Tables 6 and 7) occurred with quartz at 675 and 700°C. Experiments below 675°C grew petalite (petalite, Table 7) plus quartz.
