In 1988 the museum was separated from the Rokiškis museum . After the independence of Lithuania was regained, the museum was given back its previous state and name. The expositions were essentially changed, the profound analysis of the region past started.

Antanas Vienažindis, a poet and a priest, was born in the Anapolis village of the Rokiškis region. In 1864 he graduated from the Varniai seminary. Then he worked as a priest in Panevėžys, Šiaulėnai, Krinčinas, Vainutė, Breslauja, Laižuva.
