The Village is surrounded by oaks and chestnut forest.
EVENTS
The most known event of Santu Lussurgiu is “Sa Carrela e Nanti”, recurring at the last three days of Carnivals. It is a horse race on a steep road. Riders, masked and divided into pairs, ride their horses with mastery and joy. It is a very interesting event that attracts a lot of tourists. An other event, always in the carnival period, is “Cantigos in Carrela”, where folk groups from all over Sardinia parade through the streets of the village. There are some other events related to religious moment as some Processions on horseback.
THE OLD TOWN
Santu Lussurgiu old town is one of the most beautiful place of Sardinia. You can visit the rural museum here where there are some old tools used for the production of cheese, for the manufacture of iron, and other things related to farm work. There are also some antique toys. You can visit San Pietro church, the village’s parish, situated in the homonymous square and Santa Maria degli Angeli church of the unique beauty, situated near Market square.
SAN LEONARDO “San Leonardo de Siete Fuentes” is a Santu Lussurgiu part that it is on the road from Santu Lussurgiu to Macomer.
It is located at 684 meters above sea level. San Leonardo counts only 34 inhabitant so there are few houses, mo bvstly for tourists. The location of San Leonardo is very suggestive. There is a holt near seven fountains, where flow some clean and pure water. There is an old church too, built in fifteen hundred (1500). So it is a very old place, but very enchanting.
