By definition, sacraments are rituals that God entrusts the Church to perform. These sacraments act as signs of God's grace and as a channel of God's grace to his people. Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Orders are said to leave an indelible mark on the spirit to designate belonging to Christ. Each of the three marks are separate and not to be repeated. Baptism refers to washing the body and the soul with water, Confirmation is a rite of initiation into the Catholic Church and Holy Orders is the ceremony through which a man becomes a priest, deacon or bishop.
