Full Answer

According to Foot Care For You, a longer second toe is called Morton's Toe, named for the physician Dr. Dudley Morton. It's also called the Greek Foot. It's caused by abnormalities of the metatarsal bones, which are finger-like bones that attach to the toes. Normally the first and second metatarsal bones are the same length; however, in the case of Morton's Toe, the first metatarsal bone that is attached to the big toe is shorter than the second bone that's attached to the second toe, making the second toe longer. Morton's toe can also be the result of an unstable first metatarsal bone, which causes too much motion of the bone and thus makes it shorter. The condition is hereditary.
