There’s a lot we don’t know about our favorite celebrities. Many of them prefer to keep their private lives under wraps, but sometimes, the facts get out. It’s not too surprising that many celebrities dabble in witchcraft or the occult, but which ones have witchy ways can come as quite the surprise!
Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey is a powerful voice in music. She writes beautifully haunting songs that fans adore. However, some fans may not know that Lana Del Rey has an interest in witchcraft and is even on record stating that she used witchcraft to put a hex on U.S. President Donald Trump!
She’s been very vocal about her dislike for the president. She has also stated that she was serious about performing the hexing ritual. Either way, the singer also makes references to witchcraft in some of her songs as well.
Lorde
Lorde creates unique indie pop music that has captured the interest of fans around the world. She has stated in many interviews that she’s “basically a witch.” Usually, she tells this to interviewers when they ask her about anything occult-related or her fears.
She says she’s never been afraid of ghosts or spirits and has also hinted that she dabbles in the occult often. She certainly gives off an otherworldly vibe, so maybe the spirits have helped her out on a song or two!
Ariana Grande
This next celebrity may surprise you! Ariana Grande, the posh pop singer, has told reporters that she encountered an actual demon. Pretty creepy, right? The pop singer supposedly fought the demon, and stranger still, she told reporters she caught a photo of her experience.
However, she didn’t want to send it out to anybody because the image was precisely 666 megabytes. It’s unknown exactly how she “fought” the demon or if the story holds any truth, but it’s certainly a strange story.
David Bowie
Witchcraft and the occult have been present in David Bowie’s music since the 1960s. There are even tarot cards on the market that feature illustrations of the musician. He’s also stated in many interviews his interest in UFOs and ghosts.
In a memoir, his wife Angie Bowie also talked about how Bowie feared that witches were actually after him! However, that was also around when he was struggling with drug abuse the most, so it’s hard to say how much Bowie in later years actually continued such beliefs.
Gisele Bundchen
This connection to the occult may explain a certain football team seemingly always making it to the Super Bowl! Giselle Bundchen, who is married to Tom Brady, has a strange little ritual she does before her husband plays his games.
She creates an “altar” for him in addition to giving him protection and healing stones. The model also recites mantras with her husband and gives him “special drops.” Also, she may have a bit of psychic energy going on, because she’s told him when he’s going to win or lose the Super Bowl!
Azealia Banks
During a strange series of Instagram videos, Azealia Banks admitted to practicing brujeria, a form of Hispanic witchcraft. In a series of videos posted to her Instagram account, rapper Azealia Banks admitted to practicing the craft.
She stirred up controversy when she talked about sacrificing chickens to help her with her career. One of the more controversial pictures she posted was of her cleaning blood from her closet, where she slayed the chickens. It sounds like a pretty strange, and perhaps inhumane, way to get ahead in your career.
Adele
Adele is famous for getting anxiety before performing, so much so that she has been known to actually throw up before walking on the stage. Apparently, however, she eventually found a solution to her problem, and it didn’t involve prescriptions.
Adele uses spiritual crystal healing to purportedly calm her nerves. She likes that it’s a holistic approach and continues to experiment with spirituality and holistic remedies. If that’s what she needs to share her powerful voice with the world, well, whatever works.
Sully Erna
The singer-guitarist of Godsmack has always been open as a Wiccan. Erna’s mentor is even the famed Salem witch Laurie Cabot! Since he has found himself in the public eye, Erna has always tried to educate others on Wicca to help ward off prejudice toward the practice.
Wicca has strongly influenced Erna’s music, and most famously, the song Voodoo. He wants people to know that Wicca has nothing to do with black magic. He has also said he didn’t want to be the face of witchcraft, but he fears that’s now how people see him.
Bjork
Bjork’s connection with witchcraft isn’t so surprising considering that she used to be in a band called Kukl, which literally means witchcraft in Icelandic. Many of the songs were also heavily rooted in the occult, such as The Juniper Tree and Pagan Poetry.
She’s told the media and her fans that her interest in the occult began when she was a teenager. She’s always been a bit of a strange performer, but people dig the way she has never pretended to be anything other than herself.
Beyonce
Beyonce has been linked to many underground organizations, but when it came out that she was linked to “extreme witchcraft,” fans wanted to know more. A former drummer for the star filed an actual restraining order stating that Beyonce used witchcraft to tap into her phone and control her finances.
While the witchcraft part might be possible, it seems highly doubtful that Beyonce needed to manage a drummer’s finances. A judge tossed the claim out, but the conspiracy theory remains. Perhaps Beyonce is really a witch; it would explain a lot!
Jennifer Lopez
Back in 2011, rumors started to circulate that Jennifer Lopez had a bit of mystical help to get where she is. Specifically, the rumor was about her godmother practicing Santeria. And, despite what you may think, there are some pretty dark rituals connected with Santeria.
A woman who dated Lopez’s first husband said that Jennifer herself does some terrifying stuff, including giving friends tips on how to perform certain rituals and putting spells on all of her boyfriends. Needless to say, these allegations have never been confirmed.
Sam Smith
Sam Smith has released countless songs that can tug on anyone’s heartstrings. It’s not a surprise that a guy who writes such beautiful lyrics about love is devoted to finding true romance. He’s stated that he uses various crystals in hopes of doing just that.
He has shared his large collection of gems on Instagram and talks about his use of healing crystals. His goal in dabbling with crystals is to find love in his life. It’s not clear how that’s supposed to work, but hopefully he finds what he’s looking for either way.
Spencer Pratt
Spencer Pratt is a reality star that has appeared on The Hills and other MTV shows over the years. Since becoming famous, Pratt has started his very own crystal business called Pratt Daddy Crystals that has been growing in popularity. It also sells pendants, bracelets and other items.
He’s also told the media that in addition to all the money he put into the business, he has also spent thousands on a wizard coach. Hopefully that pays off for him, whatever it is he’s trying to do.
The Olsen Twins
Both Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have told the media that they do what they can to avoid all negative energy. How do they do this? Well, Mary-Kate says that she uses sage on everything, all the time.
That’s not the only method they’ve tried, however. They also use crystals and have an interest in holistic healing. They even passed out quartz and tourmaline crystals for countering negative energy and protection respectively during fashion week.
Elvis Presley
In addition to being deputized into the Bureau of Narcotics by Richard Nixon (no joke), the King also may have dabbled in the occult. His wife, Priscilla Presley, who revealed that he had a stage where focused on spirituality and even hired an Indian guru who convinced him to briefly practice celibacy.
However, it’s unclear if his wife’s account is accurate. While Presley’s erratic and strange behavior is well-documented, his experimentation with the occult had fewer witnesses. Either way, however, the King certainly didn’t need witchcraft to find success.
Stevie Nicks
This one shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, as Stevie Nicks has often been referred to as “The White Witch.” She is open about her high opinion of witchcraft but has often denied practicing it herself. Either way, Stevie Nicks is known for being sort of “witchy.”
She loves witchcraft so much that she’s a regular on American Horror Story, playing herself as a witch who helps out her sister witches. She appeared in 2 seasons of the series and is likely to return! Fans certainly want her to.
Princess Nokia
Princess Nokia is a rapper that many may not have heard of. Either way, she identifies as a bruja, a practitioner of Hispanic witchcraft. She has stated that being a witch runs in her family and that she feels it’s important to keep those traditions alive.
Many of the practices she actively participates in involve healing abilities, clairvoyance and mediumship. From the way she talks about it, it seems like she takes her beliefs pretty far, going all out when it comes to rituals.
Fairuza Balk
Fairuza Balk is an actress you’ve probably seen a lot of popular movies, especially in the ’90s. One of her most iconic roles was that of Nancy Downs in The Craft, where she played a very skilled witch.
She has been open about her interest in Wicca and has stated that it started while filming The Craft. There are reliable sources that saw her purchasing an occult book while visiting Los Angeles in 2001. It’s not clear how far she takes it, but she can play a witch very, very well.
Heather Graham
Actress Heather Graham has always been pretty open about her belief in witchcraft. She’s stated that she and friends get together and burn offerings, make wishes and honor the elements of earth, wind, air and fire.
Allegedly, she and friends had an experience when performing one of these rituals where they called for the wind and a storm started right above her roof. She’s also said that she sent Obama “good energy” in the hopes he would become president.
Daryl Hall
This one is pretty shocking but utterly true! Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates had an interest in witchcraft that started in the ’70s. He stated that he spent six or seven years wholly immersed in a bunch of different ancient techniques for “focusing the inner flame.”
Hall even said that the song Without Tears is based on a book by Aleister Crowley. There are also rumors that Hall is somehow related to Crowley himself. However, Hall did say that after a time, he realized that most of his interest in witchcraft wasn’t worth holding onto.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry is another celebrity who likes to harness the power she believes lies in crystals. She’s told media outlets that one crystal in particular is one of the reasons she doesn’t stay single very long.
Rose quartz is said to attract romantic partners into one’s life, and Perry says she carries a lot of it around with her all the time! Of course, being Katy Perry probably also goes a long way toward helping her find a date.
Gabrielle Anwar
Actress Gabrielle Anwar from shows like Press Gang, The Tudors, Burn Notice and Once Upon a Time identifies as a pagan. Her beliefs about marriage and feminism are also deeply tied to her faith.
While married, Anwar found herself frustrated by the need to cook dinner, clean and look appealing to her husband while also pulling her own financial weight. She came to believe that marriage was designed to control women and that it clashed with her faith, so when she divorced, she vowed never to remarry.
Sammy Davis Jr.
Sammy Davis Jr. was a well-known entertainer, but that’s not all. In 1968, he was invited to a party that turned out to be a satanic orgy. He joined The Church of Satan and starred in Poor Devil, a television movie about a denizen of hell. It was intended to act as the pilot to a television series that was never made.
He eventually became a Warlock within the Church of Satan. His interest was short-lived, however. In his memoir from the 70s, he wrote that while he still had many friends within the church, he’d since lost interest in the organization.
Patrick Swayze
Patrick Swayze was an incredible actor who often talked about his belief in the power of crystals. He also owned a magic wand. It’s not clear what beliefs he ascribed to the wand, but his ownership of it certainly suggests he was interested in the occult.
Swayze also found numerous roles in occult movies, with the most famous likely being Ghost. Sadly, Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009, but his role in representing the occult on screen will outlast him.
Evan Rachel Wood
Evan Rachel Wood has always surprised fans, so this is nothing really new for her. She’s been known to carry certain items with her all the time to ensure the places she visits are free of demons
Like the Olson twins, she uses sage to prevent and purify bad energy. Wood also says that a tiger’s eye gemstone helps her remove demonic energy. It’s hard to say why demons would want to harm wood, but hey, whatever works.
Cybill Shepherd
Cybill Shepherd is known for films such as Taxi Driver, The Heartbreak Kid and The Last Picture Show as well as television shows like The L Word and Psych. She once called herself a Christian Pagan Buddhist Goddess worshiper.
It would seem she mixed elements of Christianity, Paganism, Buddhism, and perhaps Wicca. However, she apparently reconverted to Christianity sometime around 2014. She subsequently starred in the Christian film Do You Believe?
Christina Aguilera
As someone who claims to be the Queen of Halloween, it’s no surprise that Christina Aguilera loves all the spooky things that come with the holiday. Every year for Halloween, Aguilera turns her mansion into a sprawling homage to all things creepy and kooky.
In 2019, she threw an elaborate party that included an homage to The Addams Family. It certainly wasn’t a coincidence that around the same time, she also released Haunted Heart, a single featured in a new animated Addams Family film.
Led Zeppelin
It’s not surprising that Led Zeppelin, a band that relished fantastic imagery in its lyrics, might also be tied to the occult. Rumors of them worshipping the devil were just that, but they certainly didn’t seem to mind them if they boosted their popularity.
However, Jimmy Paige did have a fascination with British occultist Aleister Crowley, even going so far as to purchase his former home. However, Paige didn’t place much importance on that. “There were two or three owners before Crowley moved into it. It was also a church that was burned to the ground with the congregation in it. Strange things have happened in that house that had nothing to do with Crowley.”
Madonna
If you’re a fan of Madonna, you’ve probably heard that she’s openly admitted to practicing witchcraft on and off throughout her years of international fame. Madonna has never had an issue being open with her fans, and they love her for it.
In addition to her interest in witchcraft and the occult, she has also dropped illuminati hints over the years that have further ignited the internet pool of conspiracy theories. True or not, she does always manage to keep people talking, and that’s never a bad thing when you’re in the public eye.
Rachel True
This last celebrity is another star from the film The Craft. Rachel True, who played Rachelle, has been very open about her witchy ways to fans. She practices tarot and even offers readings, at least according to rumor.
Her approach to magic is quite wholesome. “To me,” said True, “it means using your personal power to manifest things for yourself or other people. It means using your powers for good … I think if you believe that you can manifest things, even though the mountain is insurmountable, that’s magic to me.”
