When it comes to awards season, we’re still in the early stages. Most of the big fall movie titles haven’t even been released. Some of them have yet to be seen by critics at all. But a few titles are already making headlines after runs at Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and New York Film Festival.

We’re still expecting some last-minute surprises. Last year Minari and Nomadland already looked like the movies to beat at the Oscars after they premiered at Sundance and TIFF, respectively, but Promising Young Woman didn’t become a favorite contender for the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories until late into the season.

Here are some of the titles, filmmakers and performers leading the 2022 Oscars race so far with chances of getting coveted nominations. The 94th Academy Awards will take place on March 27, 2022. Nominations will be announced on February 8.
